What do you do with your clothing once you feel that it is worn one out or out of style? Donate it? As nice of a thought as that is, save yourself some money and recycle that old clothing by crafting it into something fashionable and fabulous.
Do it Yourself Fashions
Junk drawer jewelry is in… And I don’t know a single household that doesn’t have a junk drawer. The funkier the better. Your first project can be a toothbrush bracelet. That’s right. Look it up on the Internet for instructions. Arm warmers can be made from any long sleeve top and make a definite fashion statement. Cut off the end of the sleeve and cut a hole in the side for your thumb. The sleeves will need to fit snugly so that they don’t fall down. An old sleeve can also be turned into a cute, soft headband. Once again, more specific directions can be found on line.
In the Pursuit of Fashion
Purses are very fashionable and crazy easy to make from recycled clothing. An old tee shirt can be fashioned into a purse, giving you a nice stretchy bag, and is the perfect crafted fashion project for the beginner. Use a shirt with a logo on it for an added touch of style; or two contrasting tee shirts and really spice it up. A purse can also be fashioned from inexpensive place mats picked up at a secondhand store or rummage sale and a little something called a ‘booty bag’ can be fashioned from an old pair of jeans or jean shorts. This is actually a perfect fit when you consider that it already has pockets in which to carry the little things in life.
Google recycling your clothes into new fashions for more ideas and detailed instructions on the above listed suggestions. What have you got to lose? Old, outdated clothes? Childrens clothing that is to small.
