If you have children and are searching for fun things to do with them for Halloween you can start now with these simple craft ideas that you can create from the comfort of home.

Materials Needed

Construction paper, Scissors, Elmer’s Glue, Masking Tape, Cardboard, Paper bag, Gray paint, Black paint, Black pipe cleaners, Cotton balls, and empty paper towel rolls, wire snips, plastic hangers, newspaper, old clothes.

What You Can Create

Place mats – You can create unique place mats for your Halloween table with cardboard and paper bags. This will enable your Halloween table to feel creepy and authentic at the same time.

Cut outs – Use the colored paper to create cut outs of black cats, pumpkins, moons, stars and other Halloween decorative elements. Once you’ve created some unique cut outs, you can tape them to your windows and hang them around your house.

Lamp shades – Take the colored paper and use it for creating lamp multi colored, creepy, lamp shades. By changing the lighting in your house you can add a little extra creepiness to any Halloween party.

Tombstones – To dress up your front yard and make it more authentic for Halloween; use cardboard to create tombstones. Once you’ve created tombstones, you can paint them grey to make them feel more authentic and scary.

Spiders – You can create creepy spiders by using pipe cleaners and cotton balls.

Skeletons – One of the easiest things to create for Halloween is a skeleton. You can create one by cutting one out of cardboard, construction paper or by using wire snips to cut up old plastic hangers to create skeleton out of the old hanger.

Headless body – To create a headless body that you can sit out front of your house on Halloween all you need are some clothes and old newspapers. Just stuff the old clothing with either newspaper or old pillows from your house. Use pins to secure the top of the body with the bottom to insure that both pieces will stay together no matter where you place the body.

Donate it? As nice of a thought as that is, save yourself some money and recycle that old clothing by crafting it into something fashionable and fabulous.

Do it Yourself Fashions

Junk drawer jewelry is in… And I don’t know a single household that doesn’t have a junk drawer. The funkier the better. Your first project can be a toothbrush bracelet. That’s right. Look it up on the Internet for instructions. Arm warmers can be made from any long sleeve top and make a definite fashion statement. Cut off the end of the sleeve and cut a hole in the side for your thumb. The sleeves will need to fit snugly so that they don’t fall down. An old sleeve can also be turned into a cute, soft headband. Once again, more specific directions can be found on line.

In the Pursuit of Fashion

Purses are very fashionable and crazy easy to make from recycled clothing. An old tee shirt can be fashioned into a purse, giving you a nice stretchy bag, and is the perfect crafted fashion project for the beginner. Use a shirt with a logo on it for an added touch of style; or two contrasting tee shirts and really spice it up. A purse can also be fashioned from inexpensive place mats picked up at a secondhand store or rummage sale and a little something called a ‘booty bag’ can be fashioned from an old pair of jeans or jean shorts. This is actually a perfect fit when you consider that it already has pockets in which to carry the little things in life.

Google recycling your clothes into new fashions for more ideas and detailed instructions on the above listed suggestions. What have you got to lose? Old, outdated clothes? Childrens clothing that is to small.

With two great holidays looming, Easter and Mother’s Day(and let’s not forget dear old dad) now is the time to get the family together and create some fun and ingenious crafts. With just a little bit of effort, minimal materials, you can make some great keepsakes that will remain in the family for years to come.

Get Started

The most important thing to bring to any craft-making venture is enthusiasm. The whole idea is to have fun. Therefore, nothing is out of bounds, creativity rules the day. Sometimes the best ideas come from mistakes and if not, at least everyone will get a good laugh.

While some of the more experienced “crafters” will use bone folders (for creasing paper and making scores for easy folding) and punches, if your just getting started some scissors, glue and paper, yarn and any other knic-knacs and doo-dads will do. Since your getting the family together, the projects should gear toward the simple and easy to do category. After all, it’s all about the kids.

Ideas and Projects

A nice and simple craft to start with is the sunflower garden. This is fun and quite attractive when completed. All you need is some yellow paper plates, brown and yellow yarn, some sticks and green paint. Cut the paper plates into flower shapes, weave the yarn into the center, paint the sticks green and behold…a sunflower garden. Or you can improvise and leave out the yarn and print cute messages on each flower. How about the good old paper mobiles. All you need is some sturdy paper, ribbon, scissors and glue and your ready to create. What mom doesn’t love a colorful mobile hanging in the kitchen with heartfelt messages on them. And with Easter coming, who doesn’t like a Milk Carton Bunny Basket. All you need is scissors, a half-gallon milk carton, stapler, glue, pipe cleaners(for whiskers) and googly eyes(available at any good craft store). This sturdy container is usually painted yellow or pink and is a big hit with the kids.

The great thing about crafts is that they are fun and easy to make, cheap and truly bring out the creative juices of the whole family.

Make sure to have plenty of craft supplies on hand, such as xerox 016-1826-00.
