Another fun way to reuse or redo your tee is with tie-dye.  Buy some dyes at your local craft store.  A few colors will work the best.  Also, make sure to buy rubber bands.  This is how you get the tie-dye effect on the shirt.  Then, pick out your favorite old shirt and begin sectioning it off for the tie-dying process.  Any shirt will do.  Even your favorite bustedtees can be tie-dyed.

Alter

Also, keep in mind that nearly every shirt you have can be altered.  You can alter it to change the look of the shirt or to help it fit better.  One idea is to cut off long shirts to make them look boxier and 80s like.  This way, you have an on-trend shirt that you didn’t have to pay a fortune for.  Also, you can always cut the shirt where needed.  Cut the sleeves off for summer time.  Create a slit in the shirt.  You can hem these changes or leave them alone.  Either way, you will add character to your standard wardrobe option.

Vintage Tees

Finally, remember that all old tees can qualify as “vintage”.  Vintage is cool and stylish.  So pull out your old shirts and reuse them.  Pair them with your favorite shoes and enjoy.

Don’t Buy It—Build It

Surely you’ve seen advertised on TV those overpriced, upside down hanging tomato plants. It’s ridiculous what they’re getting for these plants when it’s so easy to do at home. You need a 2 liter soda bottle (I’m sure the kids won’t mind helping you empty that); paint is optional; a heated nail or a drill; a ¼ dowel or a chopstick and your basic utility knife. I’ll bet you’re getting a picture of this already. Cut the bottom off of the bottle with your utility knife; take that piece you just cut off, turn it over and put it in the new opening of the bottle; this will be your reservoir and you need to drill a small hole through it or use that heated nail to poke through the plastic. Now you’re going to drill two holes through the outside of the bottle and reservoir—one on each side; through these holes you will thread the chopstick or dowel. This dowel will be the hangar for your upside down tomato planter.

You can paint the outside of the bottle now if you’d like. Take your seedling tomato plant and stick the roots through what used to be the top of the bottle; place it far enough down so that the roots will be completely covered by dirt when you fill the bottle with potting soil. Wrapping a coffee filter around the roots can help you insert them safely and will not hamper the growth of your vegetable in any way. A nice mix of peat moss and potting soil can fill the rest of the container; tie some strong twine to each end of the chopstick and hang your upside down tomato planter.

If Mother Nature doesn’t water the plant enough check the reservoir every now and then to be sure your plant is getting enough moisture.
