360 digest, a real estate blog from the Seattle area is reporting that the northwest multiple listing service is planning to pull their feed from realtor.com at the end of their contract. Citing the feelings of the majority of the board members that it is inappropriate to provide this type of information to a “for-profit” business outside their sphere of influence, they decided to make the move.
NWMLS currently serves over 2000 companies and 27,000 individual agents in Washington and Oregon.
It sounds like realtor.com will become basically irrelevant in buying and selling real estate in this area. For more information, go to: NWMLS to pull feed to realtor.com
Congradulations to NWMLS! NWMLS is one of the few MLS data bases in the United States that is not owned by a Realtor Board yet serves both Realtor and Real Estate Agents in their market place.
This is only the first major domino to fall against realtor.com.
HATS OFF to the NWMLS!! Where are the rest of us? It’s about time that brokerages, Realtor boards and MLS’s start thinking about the owners and the real estate agents. Sellers hire listing agents to sell their properties, and then the MLS’s sell the listing information and the sellers lose the contact info directly to their agents.
It’s time more brokerages, boards and MLS’s stand up and be counted with the NWMLS.
Realtor.com (the official website of the NAR) has hijacked the listings of realtors across the nation for long enough. The NAR has made a huge mistake and the root cause of their mistake is their greed.
